Thassos revizitat 12. Pisici / Thassos Revisited 12. Cats

I’m back from Central Asia but I need some time to sort my notes and photos. So, I present you some photos with cats, I took in Thassos, on May. It is not a secret that the Greeks love cats, so you can see them everywhere: in courtyards, on the streets or at the tavernas. And they love modelling...

Thassos revizitat 11. Mancarea in Thassos / Thassos Revisited 11. Food in Thassos

Souvlaki is, of course, the best known disg in Greece. Chicken or pork and French fries – everybody likes this mixture. But if you add a baked aubergine, with garlic, it’s even better! A green figs jam on fat, Greek, yoghurt on the house, complete the meal in Phillipi.

In Limenaria we ate another traditional Thassos dish,  called exhotico. It’s pork baked together with carrots, garlic and peppers.

In the evening, in Potos, the taverns are full of tourists who came from different locations on the island for the good food. We ate at the “Irene” tavern, recommended by many Romanians of forums and blogs.

Kazaviti was not only a beautiful mountain village, we also ate well at  one of the tavern in the centre of the village. We choosed simple dishes like baked huge white beans and stuffed wine leaves with sour cream.

And because we appreciated the white beans so much, we recidivated in Theologos. We add a pork and lamb grill.

The food is very good in Greece, and it goes well with a cold Mythos bear, a Greek wine or a retsina.

Thassos revizitat 10. Sate de munte: Theologos / Thassos Revisited 10. Mountain Villages: Theologos

Tourists are going to Theologos to eat grilled goat or lamb, and to buy honey. This is the biggest village on the island (220 m high). The starting point is Potos, on the main road (10 km).

The area has been inhabited since the Byzantine era. During the Turkish occupation (1455-1813) half of the village has been inhabited by Turks and half by Greeks. The two halves were united by a stone bridge (18 century), near the entrance in the village.

We have been here on 2010 too but then we went directly to the centre and we didn’t stay long. Now we took another route, over the village, lingering on the way to take photos of nature or of the old house,s covered with stone slabs.

There are some monasteries and churches in the village, a Museum of Folklore (which was closed), an old oil mill, taverns, shops selling souvenirs, olive oil and products with olive oil, honey. It is also a shop were a pair of shoes or sandals is made right under your eyes. A pair of real leather sandals is aprox. 35 euros.

El se afla in apropierea intrarii in sat.

Am fost aici si in 2010, cand am mers direct in centru si nu am stat prea mult.

Dimitrios (construita in 1803), evident inchisa. Incercasem si in 2010 sa o vizitam dar tot fara succes.
